WHAT IS HOMESTAR?
Homestar is a rating tool that provides an independent assessment factoring the health, efficiency and sustainability of New Zealand homes. Homestar credits are awarded based on the home’s environmental values across a number of categories. Some credits include water usage, ventilation, natural light, embodied carbon and renewable energy to name a few. A home can be rated as a 6 - 10 star with 10 stars being considered as world-leading. The higher the homestar rating the greater the environmental result.

2. Before embarking on the certification process, Siecap will help you assess the feasibility of pursuing Homestar certification for your project. Together you will consider factors such as project goals, budget, timeline, and commitment to sustainable design and construction practices.
3. The Siecap assessor will conduct a Pre-Assessment Consultation which involves reviewing project plans, designs, and specifications to identify areas where sustainability improvements can be made. 4. The Siecap assessor will assist in developing and refining your project's design, incorporating sustainable strategies based on the recommendations provided during the pre-assessment consultation. 5. Once the construction or renovation phase is complete, your Siecap Homestar Assessor will conduct an on-site assessment of the property. This assessment involves evaluating various aspects, such as energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water efficiency, site selection, and innovation.
6. Following the assessment, your project will be assigned a Homestar rating based on the points achieved. Homestar ratings range from 6 to 10 stars, with higher ratings indicating a higher level of sustainability and energy efficiency.
